npower
The Task
npower.com was largely a static web site. The department within npower that
managed npower.com realised that they needed to make the site more interactive
and customer friendly by enabling customer self-serve services. To enable them
to do this mean't a change in the technology they used and in turn a realistion
of the skills shortage they had in addition to the re-training they would have
to endure.
npower tasked Omniarc to help them build a team of developers, designers, project
managers and testers that over time would give npower the inhouse capability of
delivering a fully dynamic site on the new technology platform.
Why Omniarc
Although npower already worked with a number of agencies in helping them resource
permanent and contract staff, this department felt that they needed to work with
an agency that could not only offer them the type of personnel that they required
but could also provide them with some technical support regarding the technology
and the type of training required as part of the over all relationship,
structuring a managble migration path.
The Issues
The final team needed to be predominatly made up of full time employees.
The budget for resourcing was limited.
A number of tactical projects had to be completed to convince the business that
this platform could handle the type of applications required.
The recruitment cycle needed to compliment the retraining of the current staff to
ensure an apporpriate level of mentoring from the small number of experienced
contract resource that would become part of the team.
The Approach
After an initial consultation period with the client and the current development team,
Omniarc helped structure a resource and training plan to move the department forward in
achieveing their goals. This plan was revised on a week by week basis to ensure that it
continued to take in to account any internal changes that were happening within npower and
outwith the control of this department.
To ensure consistency at a recruiting and technology support level, Omniarc provided npower
with a dedicated team consisting of a recruiter, resourcer and a technical consultant. Omniarc
technically vetted all candidates and only ever submitted 3 candidates for any one role, with a number
hires being executed purely on Omniarcs recommendation.
Commercially Omniarc structured a finance model that would ensure that npowers' strict
budget could be adhered to and would also allow npower to gain access to the experienced
contract resource that they would need in the initial stages of change.
The Result
The results are currently being achieved. npower website is becoming more dynamic and the
development team consists mainly of fulltime staff who have the capability of delievering
the type of dynamic content and self-serve services required by npower business.
